Five visually impaired persons in Bamenda have received white canes and a total sum of 30000frs from a Bamenda based NGO known as The Organization for the Realization of an inclusive society, (ORIS). while chairing the ceremony that took place on the 29th of August 2018, at the organization’s head office in Nkwen, the founder of ORIS, Tancho Fidel who is also a journalist working with Ndefcam Radio, Bamenda, revealed that it is the vision of the NGO to support the welfare of persons with visually impairment.Bamenda.
it is in this light that, Setah Estella, a visually impaired person and a business woman received the sum of 30.000 FRS as a support package for her business while the others got white canes.
According to Neh Vitalis Tangek, a beneficiary, the white cane will help him in many ways as moving without a cane is very stressful to a visually impaired person. He promised to introduce more persons to the NGO so they can benefit from it as well.
The white cane aids the visually impaired person to scan their surroundings for obstacles or orientation marks, but is also helpful for other traffic participants in identifying the user as visually impaired.
